A renovation designed to feel like a resolved new build, with interiors that open outward to the landscape and support easy, coastal living.
Sitting walking distance between bushland and beach, the home's material palette was chosen to hold both landscapes at once. Dark stained timbers and green tones nod to the surrounding bush, while travertine and a white washed ceiling bring in the light, sandy quality of the coast nearby.
The brief was to transform the property into a spacious five-bedroom home that felt cohesive and intentional, not simply extended. Careful spatial planning reoriented the main living areas toward the outdoors, so natural light, pool views and garden spaces became part of daily life in the house rather than an afterthought.
A new standalone garage was added to the property, freeing up space within the home itself and allowing the internal layout to breathe. Stained in a dark timber inspired by the Peregian Beach toilet block, it nods to the surrounding streetscape while giving the property a considered, unified exterior.
Inside, ceiling panelling was used through the main living areas to draw the eye away from structural bulkheads, so the ceiling itself becomes the focus rather than the underlying structure. The result reads as a considered new build rather than an addition bolted onto an older home. Paired with soft, indirect lighting rather than rows of downlights, the panelling also brings a quiet acoustic calm to the lounge and dining spaces, grounding them and giving them a sense of retreat that echoes the coastline just beyond the windows.
The original timber floorboards were retained throughout, anchoring the new work with warmth and a sense of history. Existing arched forms were reimagined as feature windows framing the pool, a small architectural gesture that carries real charm. The result is a home with multiple indoor and outdoor zones for gathering and quiet retreat alike, where kitchen, living and garden flow together without a hard edge between them.
